It acts in a manner similar to a running martingale, but with additional leverage.

  1. Shires German Martingale

The service from English Tack Shop was excellent and the martingale set arrived very quickly. However, my large pony really needs the full size vs. cob size; we can get by with the cob version and it will work well. At first I wasn't thrilled with the quality of the leather itself, although the workmanship and hardware are good. After thoroughly oiling the leather - as is recommended - it's softened up considerably and is now like older, much used tack. A finer weave on the webbing in the reins would be preferable to make the reins more pliable in the hands. Compared to the quality of some other martingales on the market, yes, I would recommend this product.
